About Dr. Arzu Özyol
I graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1983 and received an MBA degree from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2002. In May 2013, I completed my Ph.D. study on Environmental Bioethics. During the studies of my Ph.D., I got two courses on Global Energy and Environmental Politics and Environmental Policies from Harvard University in 2009 -2010.

My professional experience has been developed extremely after I built up my own company Hydra that has been established to provide knowledge-oriented technical, economic, and legal supports to public and private organizations at national and international levels.  The major specialty of my company is developing and managing projects for EU-funds.  EU provides funds through certain institutions in order to solidify the society, foster democratic processes, develop the entrepreneurship and dialog capacities of the citizens, and to establish a balanced relationship between governments and their citizens. By more than 75 projects, I have gained many competencies such as multicultural understanding, advocacy, team working, accountability, transparency, leadership, and good governance.

From 2008 to 2014, I have been a part-time lecturer at Istanbul Yeditepe University. I delivered the courses of Project Cycle Management, Environmental Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Institutionalization of NGO’s and Fund Raising and Diversity Management.

I have many articles and 2 scientific books. The first one is about “Bioethics Environmental Policies” which was published by Lambert Academic Publishing in Turkish and the second one is “Women and Sustainability in Business- Global Perspective” which is published by Routledge which includes 17 articles from different researchers. My article -“Women Absent in Environmental Politics: Gender Mainstreaming in Environmental Policies” -takes place in Chapter 14.

I am a member of the board of the UNESCO Center for Women and Peace in Balkan Countries since 2010. I have many travels to Balkan Region and arranged many B to B Meetings for the women entrepreneurship who are living in the Balkan Region, at the end of each Annual Women Entrepreneurship Conferences that have been realized by BPW Turkey in Istanbul since 2011.

In August 2014, I established the UNESCO Center for Global Ethics and Sustainable Development in Istanbul. The first activity of this Organization was the International Conference under the title of “Women’s Leadership in Business from the Global Ethics and Sustainable Development Perspective. The Conference was realized by the esteemed support of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, in the 16th of January 2016 in Istanbul.

I was elected as Vice President United Nations in the last BPW International Congress that was realized in Jeju Island, South Korea in May 2014.  3 years after the Jeju Congress, we have Cairo Congress that will be held on 24-27 October 2017.  I am one of the candidates of the Presidency. Due to a confluence of her business, academic, and volunteer work, the past ten years has led to the highest achievements in my career. However, I would not seek any personal benefit. I wish to serve my Organization for ensuring “peace and social justiceinternational understanding, and goodwill,” as expected by Dr. Lena Madesin Phillips; achieving sustainable success befitting its glorious past and enriching my life with this collective journey and global friendship.
